Luis Miguel De Camps García is founding partner of De Camps Vásquez & Valera. After being designated as Minister of Labor of the Dominican Republic on August 16, 2020, his functions within the firm temporarily ceased, during his tenure in the Ministry of Labor.

Luis Miguel De Camps García is founding partner of the law firm De Camps Vásquez & Valera. He was Executive President of the Dominican Association of Trustee Companies (ASOFIDOM) from 2014 to 2020. He has been politically active for many years and is currently the president of the political party Partido Revolucionario Social Demócrata (PRSD).

On August 16, 2020, Mr. De Camps García was designated as Minister of Labor of the Dominican Republic. Due to his designation, he has put on pause his private practice during his tenure in the Ministry of Labor, and has ceased, temporarily, all of his functions within the firm De Camps Vásquez & Valera, in order to dedicate himself full time and exclusively to his new tasks as a public servant.

Professional Career and Work Experience

Luis Miguel De Camps García started his professional career in New York, United States of America, as an international lawyer at Fox Horan & Camerini LLP (2003-2005), where he specialized in corporate structures, US and international financial regulations, estate planning, designing and implementing taxation structures related to international transactions, immigration regulations and intellectual property matters in general.

Upon returning to the Dominican Republic, he founded the Law Firm De Camps, Vasquez & Valera. He has worked with international financial institutions, commercial and residential real estate developers and operators, and other corporate clients, in general with issues relating to operating business ventures in the Dominican Republic, as well as specialized matters such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and local and international financial transactions.

In 2014 he was designated as Executive President of the Dominican Association of Trustee Companies (ASOFIDOM); position which he occupied for a period of six years (2014-2020). Trough Decree 324-20 on august 16, 2020 he was designated as Minister of Labor of the Dominican Republic.

Education and Awards

Mr. De Camps Garcia completed his law degree at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, (PUCMM) with academic honors (2001). He also received an LL.M. Master of Laws with specialization in Business Law from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., United States of America and completed postgraduate studies at Harvard University, Massachusetts, United States of America, focused on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

Memberships and Teaching Positions

Member of the Bar of the Dominican Republic. Member of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs. Arbitrator for the Center for Alternative Resolution of Controversies of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo (2007 – Present). Professor of Law on Securities and Guarantees, Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) (2007 – Present). Professor of Introduction to Law, Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) (2006).

He’s been an expert panelist on Trusts in the COLAFI Conference, celebrated in Cartagena, Colombia (2018), and has actively participated in national seminars specialized in Trusts

Mr. De Camps Garcia has authored articles on Law and Economics in a variety of publications such as newspapers and specialized business magazines, both from the business standpoint as well as from the social economic impact perspective.
